NEIF delivers and contributes to training across a range of specialisms and using a variety of mechanisms. Central to our approach to training is the experience that early stage researchers gain when visiting the facility laboratories, getting hands on experience preparing samples for analysis, mass spectrometry, data reduction, and data interpretation. The duration of the in-lab training can vary, from a couple of days to over 12 months for hosted PhD and post-doctoral researchers.
This bespoke training is augmented by annual short courses that focus on the different application domains covered by NEIF. These short courses focus on method and application training, and also provide a venue to meet contemporaries to discuss science challenges and achievements.
GAEA is an online learning platform created by NERC Facilities to connect laboratory users directly to expert staff working at the facilities through both a structured programme of learning and a supportive online community of technical staff, facility management and end users. The online learning space provides accurate, reliable and state of the art training on the application and interpretation of geobiochemical and geochronological methods within the earth and biological sciences.
